What’s Your Favourite Time of Day?
Morning is my favourite time of day. It is when I get to sit quietly over a hot cup of tea, eat my breakfast when I feel like it and enjoy a slow start to the day before everyone else crowds in on my time. Morning is the time when everything is laid out in front of you- a little like the last day of school before summer holidays. It is full of possibility, and you can dream of all the wonderful things you will do. It’s only later that the day crowds in and there is never enough time!
Many of my paintings are scenes in morning light. It’s a bit like sunset, but her less showy sister. Morning light is gentle, full of possibility. Morning light has a stillness. There are no crowds or parties. Morning is a time for thought, for organizing your day, for planning. Morning is a time of clarity and hope. The world is opening up and the light is slowly increasing.
Sunset is closing time. The light is fading, thoughts are growing closer and we gather with those around us. Sunset is for cozy time, for fireworks, for brilliant displays on the horizon. Sunset is for beach fires and talk. Sunset is about reflection and considering the day just passed.
At sunset I like to cuddle up on the couch or around a fire. Favourite beverage in hand, we talk over the day’s events or share stories, contently digesting the day and dinner. Slowing down, getting sleepy and ready for bed.
