Fresh Air- After the Storm
After a storm over Georgian Bay, the clouds can be spectacular. Dark purples and blues backlit by the setting sun makes for a pretty great inspiration for a painting! If you know, you know, and this painting recaptures the feeling of looking out over the Bay on a fresh summer evening.
I begin my paintings with an initial sketch and a transparent underpainting in acrylics. The transparent pigments create a glow. The water can really fly once I get painting and spritzing to create those beautiful water reflections. I then add oil paint layers that build up on top to create a feeling of substance and depth. The last bit is the sparkle over the water! That might be my favourite part…
While each painting takes time to create, the work isn’t done when the last brushstroke is applied.
Photography, wiring, blog posts, socials posts and creating prints all happen later.
